Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced that nine communities, including The Phoebus Partnership in Hampton, have been awarded the Advancing Virginia Main Street Designation. This designation recognizes Phoebus's efforts to maintain its historical appeal, encourage small business growth, and rejuvenate its downtown area.

The Phoebus Partnership will benefit from the Virginia Main Street program by receiving services aimed at supporting downtown development. These services include market analysis, economic strategies, design assistance, and façade improvement renderings for redevelopment projects.

Governor Youngkin stated, “The Virginia Main Street program has been instrumental in nurturing small businesses, growing local economies, and preserving historic downtowns for nearly 40 years. I applaud these newly designated Virginia Main Street communities for their commitment to revitalization, and I look forward to your community’s continued success.”

Since its inception in 1985, the Virginia Main Street program has played a significant role in downtown revitalization by emphasizing a community's unique heritage and assets. Organizations like The Phoebus Partnership have helped attract over $2.6 billion in public and private investment to Virginia Main Street communities. This initiative has also led to the creation of more than 27,000 jobs and has become a vital contributor to economic and cultural growth.

Hampton is pleased with The Phoebus Partnership's recognition through this esteemed program and anticipates the positive impact it will have on economic development and historic preservation in Phoebus.
