February 18, 2025 - The City of Hampton is preparing for Winter Storm Kingston by closing all office buildings and facilities on Wednesday, February 19. Mayor Jimmy Gray stated, “As Winter Storm Kingston approaches, the City of Hampton is fully prepared to respond and keep our community safe.” He assured that road treatment crews are active, emergency services are ready, and residents should stay informed and take necessary precautions.

City offices will remain closed on February 19. H.E.L.P.’s A Night’s Welcome shelter will operate from 40 Kings Way at Hampton Baptist Church starting at 6 p.m., remaining open during the snow event. Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will stop operations after 4 p.m. on February 19 and stay closed on February 20.

Hampton City Schools will close their buildings and administrative offices on February 19, switching to virtual synchronous learning. All evening activities scheduled for that day are canceled, including sports practices, games, and a School Board meeting.

Several events face cancellations or postponements due to the storm. "Your Say with Mayor Gray," planned for February 19 at 6 p.m., is canceled; the next session will be held on March 5 at Phoebus Community Center. The AARP Black History Month Tour & Workshop set for February 20 is canceled. The HR Jazz Lecture is postponed with a new date forthcoming. The Unity Awards originally slated for February 21 have been moved to March 14, while the swim meet at Hampton Aquaplex will proceed as planned.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official city channels and prepare for winter conditions.

Stay safe, Hampton!
