The Youth Career Program (YCP) has returned to Newport News, providing local youth with work experiences and businesses with a chance to support emerging professionals. The program targets residents aged 16–24 and encourages both new and returning businesses to participate as worksites, offering mentorship and guidance.

Newport News youth can apply for paid work experiences in various city departments and local businesses. This initiative provides them with hands-on experience and skill-building opportunities essential for future careers. Businesses participating as partners can help develop young talent, creating a sustainable workforce pipeline.

"The Youth Career Program is a vital component of our Youth T.H.R.I.V.E initiative announced last year,” stated Mayor Phillip Jones. “Our youth gain the experience they need to succeed in their future careers, while also contributing to the growth and success of our local businesses. By partnering together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community, and provide Newport News youth with the tools to thrive."

Youth between 16–24 years old residing in Newport News are encouraged to apply for this chance to earn, learn, and grow professionally. The program offers mentorship and work experience crucial for career readiness.

Local businesses are invited to join YCP by offering worksites for participants. This collaboration not only aids in shaping Newport News' workforce but also allows companies to recruit local talent.

Interested individuals or businesses can apply or find more information on the official Youth Career Program Website before the application deadline on May 1, 2025.

The YCP presents an opportunity for Newport News’ youth and businesses to collaborate, create opportunities, and impact the community positively.
