Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is set to resume service with Snow Routes on Saturday, February 22, following a snowstorm earlier in the week. The Snow Route schedule will include hourly bus services on designated routes from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while The Tide light rail and Elizabeth River Ferry will operate every 30 minutes during the same hours.
Paratransit service, OnDemand ridesharing, and the Base Express shuttle at Naval Station Norfolk will remain inactive due to lingering ice and snow on secondary roads and residential streets. HRT aims to return to regular service by Sunday, pending an assessment of conditions on Saturday.
"Customers may find sidewalks near HRT bus stops still covered with ice and snow, which, in many cases, blocks pedestrian access," noted HRT. However, light rail stations and ferry docks have been cleared and treated.
Snow Routes differ from standard route patterns; hence real-time bus arrival times won't be accessible via gohrt.com or third-party apps. Customer Service representatives can only offer estimated arrival times.
The transfer locations served by Snow Routes include Newport News (NNTC), Hampton (HTC), Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (DNTC), Crawford Street, Duffy’s Lane, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Liberty & Seaboard, Newtown Road, Norfolk General, Robert Hall, Shore & Pleasure House, Victory Crossing Shopping Center, and Parks & 19th.
Northside Snow Routes comprise routes: 101, 106, 112, 114, 961, and Special Route 213. Southside Snow Routes consist of routes: 1 through 3, 6 through 8, 12 through 15, 20 through 21, as well as several others including Special Routes 202 and 212.
Most regular routes will be suspended during this period. Northside routes such as 102 through various others up to route number 118 will not run. Similarly affected are Southside routes including numbers like 4 through several others up to route number 980.
Further details about the Snow Route schedules are available online at https://gohrt.com/customer-service/snow-route-plan/. The Customer Service Call Center operates from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., though transit center information booths in Downtown Norfolk and other areas will be closed along with Silverleaf transit center services such as ID card processing and Lost and Found.
