City offices, recreation centers, and libraries will be closed from Tuesday, December 24 to Thursday, December 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday. The Recovery Operations Center will also be closed during this period.
For garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collections, there will be no services on Wednesday, December 25. All collections scheduled for that week will be delayed by one day. Collections typically done on Wednesday will occur on Thursday, and those usually on Thursday will take place on Friday. However, there will be no delay for collections scheduled for Tuesday, December 24. Additionally, there is no holiday collection delay for 18-gallon Black Bin recyclers.
The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, which serves Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York County, has adjusted its schedule as well. On Tuesday, December 24, the Reunite Lobby will close at 4 p.m., while the Adoption Center remains closed. On Wednesday, December 25, the Reunite Lobby will open from 10 a.m. to noon with the Adoption Center staying closed.
