Elizabeth River Crossings announces tunnel and lane closures from Dec 13-20

The Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) has announced a series of lane closures scheduled from Friday, December 13 to Friday, December 20. These closures are dependent on weather conditions and may change. Updates can be followed on Twitter @DriveERT.

In the Midtown Tunnel, alternating lane closures will occur eastbound and westbound on Sunday, December 15, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Additional eastbound closures are planned for Monday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Downtown Tunnel will also see alternating lane closures in both directions on Sunday, December 15, during the same morning hours. Further westbound closures extending to Frederick Blvd. are set for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Interstate 264 will experience alternating westbound lane closures between Effingham St. and Frederick Blvd. on Sunday afternoon, as well as an eastbound left lane closure between Frederick Blvd. and Effingham St. on Saturday, December 14. Two right lanes eastbound will be closed on Sunday until late evening.

On the MLK Expressway, there will be left lane closures both eastbound from London Blvd. and westbound after the Midtown Tunnel on Sunday morning into early afternoon.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises motorists to "Know Before You Go" by using available tools such as the 511 smartphone app or visiting the 511 Virginia website for traffic updates.
