The Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) facilities have announced a series of significant tunnel and lane closures scheduled from Friday, December 6 to Friday, December 13. These closures are contingent upon weather conditions, and the dates may change accordingly. For the latest updates, ERC advises following their Twitter account @DriveERT.

For the Midtown Tunnel, there will be alternating lane closures in both eastbound and westbound directions on Sunday, December 8, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Additional westbound closures are planned for Monday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

In the Downtown Tunnel on I-264 East and West, motorists can expect alternating lane closures on Sunday, December 8, between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

On Interstate 264 East and West from Frederick Blvd. to Effingham St., left lane closures are set for Sunday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The MLK Expressway will also experience left lane closures on US 58 East from London Blvd. to just before the Midtown Tunnel eastbound on Sunday morning into early afternoon hours. Similarly, US 58 West will see left lane restrictions from just after the Midtown Tunnel westbound to London Blvd during the same timeframe.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) urges drivers to “Know Before You Go” by planning trips with available resources such as downloading the free smartphone app or visiting the VDOT website for real-time traffic information.
