Thanksgiving alters city service schedules; closures announced

City offices and services will experience changes in operation due to the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28-29.

All city offices, including the Treasurer’s Office and Commissioner of Revenue's Office, DMV Select, Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center, Human Services, and community centers will be closed on Thursday and Friday. City schools will also be closed from Wednesday through Friday.

Garbage collection will not occur on Thursday or Friday. Instead, Thursday's collection is rescheduled for Wednesday, November 27. Friday's collection is postponed to Monday, December 2, with that Monday’s collection moved to Wednesday, December 4.

Street sweeping services are suspended on Thursday. The yard waste site and landfill will remain closed both days as well.

Libraries across the city will close their doors on Thursday and Friday but are expected to resume regular operations thereafter.

Community centers and neighborhood centers will reopen on Saturday following the holiday closure.

The Fort Monroe Pool is another facility that will not operate on Thursday or Friday.

Peninsula Health District clinics are open until 1 p.m. on Wednesday but closed for the remainder of the week.

City parks maintain normal operating hours throughout the holiday period. Public golf courses welcome visitors until 1 p.m. on Thursday and observe regular hours on Friday.

Hampton History Museum closes its administrative office along with public access on Thursday and remains closed through Friday for administrative purposes only.

James T. Wilson Fishing Pier shuts down at 6 p.m. Wednesday but reopens at 8 a.m. Friday morning.
