The City of Newport News, in partnership with the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors (VPAR), the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Virginia Housing (VH), and other community partners, is organizing an event titled “Breakthroughs in Housing Symposium: Igniting Communities.” The event aims to provide residents with essential housing resources and strengthen community ties.

Scheduled for Saturday, October 26, from noon to 4 p.m., the symposium will take place at the Christopher Newport University Gaines Theater. It will address various topics such as homeownership, renters' education, community development, and neighborhood improvement.

This complimentary event seeks to be a comprehensive resource for housing solutions by bringing together experts, community leaders, and service providers. It aims to assist residents in exploring housing opportunities and resources while empowering them to establish stable home lives.

The symposium will feature expert advice on homeownership, including mortgage options and first-time homebuyer programs. Sessions on renters' education will cover tenant rights and leasing terms. Attendees can also access local organizations offering financial counseling and energy assistance. Additionally, neighborhood groups will engage participants to inspire positive changes within communities.
