Hampton City Schools and other city facilities in Hampton, Virginia are taking precautions in anticipation of an approaching storm. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to the region. As a result, all Hampton City Schools will be dismissing students two hours early today. Additionally, all afternoon pre-school classes, after-school programs, and athletic activities have been canceled. The closure also extends to the city's school-aged after-school care and programs.

In order to ensure the safety of the community, the Office of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services has canceled all basketball programs scheduled for today in the schools. Furthermore, all after-school programs at community and neighborhood centers will be closing at 2 p.m. Registered children will be transported from schools to the designated centers, but parents are requested to pick up their children no later than 2 p.m. The centers affected by the closure include Fort Monroe, Little England, Mary W. Jackson, North Phoebus, Northampton, West Hampton, and Y.H. Thomas centers.

The storm preparations also extend to the Hampton Aquaplex, which will be closing at 4 p.m. to ensure the safety of its patrons.

The decision to close schools and centers early is in line with the city's commitment to prioritizing the safety of residents and children. By taking these precautions, Hampton City Schools and other city facilities are actively working to minimize any potential risks posed by the approaching storm.

As the storm approaches, it is important for residents to stay informed about any further updates or changes to the city's operations. It is advisable to check official sources for the latest information regarding closures and safety measures.

In a statement regarding the closures, a spokesperson for Hampton City Schools emphasized the commitment to the well-being of students and staff, stating, "The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are taking these proactive measures to ensure their well-being during the storm."

Residents are encouraged to stay safe and take necessary precautions as the storm passes through the region.
