CNU Football's Jedlick and Applewhite Named Academic All-District
Two members of the Christopher Newport University football program were named Academic All-District on Tuesday. Senior wide receiver Xander Jedlick and junior defensive back Carter Applewhite received the honor from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as CoSIDA.
Jedlick, from Virginia Beach, played in all ten games this season for the Captains. He caught 18 passes for 290 yards with two touchdown receptions, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.85. Applewhite, from Sandston, Va., saw action in nine games for CNU this season, and made eight tackles. His cumulative GPA is 3.98.
Christopher Newport football concluded the 2022 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Captains finished second in the NJAC behind Salisbury, and won six straight games this fall,.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Football and Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December. The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
