City of Hampton issued the following announcement on Feb 10.
Hundreds of local musicians and music lovers turned out at The Vanguard Brewpub & Distillery on Tuesday night for the VEER Music Awards, and Hampton residents took home three trophies.
Ramblin' Jake (stage name of Chris Jacobson, owner of Victorian Station in Phoebus) won the Americana/Bluegrass/Old Time category. The Open Jam at Stuft, held every Tuesday night, was voted the region's top Open Mic. (The musicians who run the open mic were busy playing at the Open Jam last night, but Stuft co-owner Casey Haas was at The Vanguard to accept the award.)
Trumpeter Duane Smith, leader of The Fuzz Band and other groups, was honored with a Musicians' Musician Award, given each year in recognition of "selfless and humble promotion of the local music scene." For a full list of winners, click here.
