The City Council is set to hold a significant meeting on Wednesday, which will include the swearing-in of new members and the selection of a vice mayor. The ceremonial event will take place at 10 a.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. During this session, newly elected mayor Jimmy Gray will be sworn in alongside new council members Randy Bowman, Carolyn Campbell, and Michelle Ferebee. Re-elected council member Hope Harper will also take her oath.

Following the seating of the council, members will choose a vice mayor. Notably, there will be no afternoon work session scheduled for this day.

Later in the evening, at 6:30 p.m., the council will convene for its regular legislative session on the eighth floor of City Hall at 22 Lincoln St. This session includes three public hearings: a use permit application by Virginia Electric and Power to relocate a communication tower near War Memorial Stadium off Pembroke Avenue; and applications concerning Raising Canes restaurant on Mercury Boulevard and Karma restaurant on Lincoln Street.

Additionally, the council is expected to deliberate on resolutions to amend the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. These amendments pertain to various projects and grants, including a federal grant aimed at resilience projects in Aberdeen Gardens neighborhood.

Both meetings are accessible to the public and can be viewed live on Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22 or streamed online at hampton.gov/livetv.
