Schools, centers closing early due to storm forecast

With a storm expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to the region this evening, Hampton City Schools and other city facilities are closing early for the safety of residents and children.

All Hampton City Schools will be dismissed two hours early today. All afternoon pre-school classes are canceled, including Headstart, as well as all after-school programs and athletic activities. The city’s school-aged after-school care and programs are also canceled this afternoon. 

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services has canceled all basketball programs today in the schools. All after-school programs at community and neighborhood centers will close today at 2 p.m. Registered children will be picked up at schools and brought to community and neighborhood centers, but parents are being asked to pick children up no later than 2 pm. at the Fort Monroe, Little England, Mary W. Jackson, North Phoebus, Northampton, West Hampton and Y.H. Thomas centers.

The Hampton Aquaplex will close at 4 p.m.
