Hampton was once again named a Top 10 Digital City. This is the 21st time the city has been recognized for its innovative use of technology and citizen engagement. Hampton has been recognized more times than any other city of its size or larger in Virginia.
“The Digital Cities survey winners continue to push the envelope of how government agencies deliver modern services during a period of rapid technological change,” said Todd Sander, VP, Center for Digital Government and Governing Institute. “Today we recognize and congratulate these trailblazers who are helping to build a government that works for everyone.”
Among the results highlighted this year:
- Upgraded online services in the Treasurer's and Commissioner of the Revenue's offices
- Expanded wi-fi access in city facilities, resulting in a 35% increase in usage and citizen-accessible wireless kiosks
- Development of a brand that represents Hampton's unique characteristics, both physical landmarks and the spirit of the city, with a webpage that informs users how to access our logo, font, and view our color palette
- Grown our social media audience by 43% over 2 years, and citizen engagement on social media by 72%
- Increased cyber-security protection measures
- Upgraded police radios include GPS location monitoring and quicker information uploads
- Added video teleconferencing within all fire stations, training facilities, offices, Emergency Management, and City Hall
- Converted VHS and DVD recordings of City Council meetings as far back as 2005 into digital files and made them accessible to citizens
