City of Portsmouth To Observe Veterans Day Holiday on Friday, November 10th

The City of Portsmouth’s municipal offices and libraries will be closed on Friday, November 10th, in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday. Please continue reading for the Friday schedule for museums and recreation centers.

Trash, Recycling, and Bulk Items Will Be Collected on the Normal Friday Schedule on November 10th Reminder: Changes to Portsmouth Waste Management Services Begin Monday, November 13th. Portsmouth Public Library - Libraries will close Friday, November 10th, for Veterans Day. Find books and other information at your favorite library location or online at portsmouthpubliclibrary.org. Books on “Veterans Day” can be located using Dewey Decimal number “394.264”. Your Digital Branch Library offers virtual resources 24/7. For more information, please call (757) 393-8501.

Portsmouth Museums and Tourism – On Veterans Day, Friday, November 10th, the Children’s Museum of Virginia will be open from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum will be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. All other museums will be closed.

Effective immediately, The Portsmouth Colored Community Library Museum and The Lightship Portsmouth Museum are closed for the season. The Portsmouth Colored Community Library Museum will reopen Wednesday – Sunday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on January 17th. The Lightship Portsmouth Museum will reopen Saturdays/Sundays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on January 20th.

The Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center (PACC) is closed for the installation of the Winter Wonderland: The Coleman Collection exhibit which opens on Friday, November 24th, from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. After Winter Wonderland closes on December 31st, PACC will reopen on February 24th at 10 a.m.

The Portsmouth Welcome Center, located at 206 High Street, will be open on Friday, November 10th, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Parks & Recreation

The following Recreation Centers will be OPEN on Friday, November 10th: 

Cavalier Manor Recreation Center, J.E. Parker Recreation Center

The following Recreation Centers will be CLOSED on Friday, November 10th: Sportsplex Recreation Center, Neighborhood Facility Recreation Center, Senior Station – All sites will resume normal operating hours on Monday, November 13th.

Parks will be operating with normal hours, from dawn to dusk. Picnic shelter rentals are available online at portsmouthparks.com.

Golf Courses will be open; tee times and golf carts are limited. Please call ahead to ensure availability.

-The Links Golf Course, located at 140 City Park Avenue, will be open from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, call (757) 465-1500.

-Bide-A-Wee Golf Course, located at 1 Bide-A-Wee Lane, will be open from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, call (757) 393-8600 or visit: Bide-A-Wee-Golf-Course.
