National adoption event offers free or reduced fees for select companion animals

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) is taking part in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” national adoption event. From now through July 31, adoption fees are waived for adult dogs over 30 lbs. and are just $20 for adult cats. With the shelter full of adoptable dogs, cats, rabbits and pocket pets, there are plenty of animals to choose from!

“We are grateful to the BISSELL Pet Foundation for sponsoring adoption fees for some of our animals as part of this event,” said Roger Iles, Shelter Manager. “The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is Virginia’s largest open admission animal shelter, and we are nearly always operating at full capacity. By adopting a shelter animal, not only do you give that pet a home, but it opens up space for another animal in need to find their forever home.”

All of the animals adopted from PRAS are spayed/neutered, microchipped, treated for common internal and external parasites and are vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines. As part of the "Empty the Shelters" campaign, MetLife Pet Insurance is offering 30 days of pet insurance at no cost to the adopter, as well as the opportunity to purchase an annual pet insurance policy.

For those unable to add a pet to their family, fostering, volunteering and/or donating (e.g., Amazon gift cards, dog and cat food, toys, blankets, cat litter, dog training treats, towels, pet shampoo, carriers, etc.) are options as well and all greatly needed.

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is one of more than 335 organizations in 44 states across the country participating in this lifesaving event to place deserving pets in loving homes. As the nation’s largest funded adoption event, “Empty the Shelters” has helped nearly 158,000 pets find homes across the country and in Canada since its inception in 2016.
