The City of Newport News has announced the return of the community program Friday Night Nets as part of the Mayor's Youth T.H.R.I.V.E. Initiative. Taking place from May 16 to August 22, the event will occur weekly from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at two locations: An Achievable Dream Tennis Center and the Denbigh Community Center. The program, which is free and open to the public, offers activities aimed at both youth (17 and under) and adults (18 and over).

Participants can enjoy an "Open Rec" style program that includes free food, haircuts, basketball, eGaming, and community resources. It provides an environment for engagement in recreational activities and community interaction.

In a statement, Mayor Phillip Jones emphasized the program's role in supporting youth and fostering community experiences: “This program is a testament to our commitment to supporting our youth and creating positive experiences for all members of our community.” He encouraged the community to participate in the program, highlighting the fun and safe spaces it creates for young people in Newport News.
