The Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center seeks proposals for outdoor sculptures

The Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, located in Olde Towne Portsmouth, VA seeks proposals for outdoor sculptures to display within our enclosed courtyard. The sculptures will be on display from May 5, 2023 – October 8, 2023. The juror for 2023 is Sheila Giolitti, owner Mayer Fine Art Gallery. 

Artist Awards include SPPA Juror’s Choice at $1,500, Seawall Award at $1,000 and People’s Choice at $500. Travel stipends are provided to all selected artists for installation and removal. 

The exhibition is open to artists 18 years or older. Artists who are working independently or as a group may enter. To enter, submit up to five existing sculptures that have been completed within the last five years and not previously presented at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center.  Send submissions and entry fee to the attention of Sculpture Committee, Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center, 521 Middle Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704-3622. Include application, fee ($30 professional artists or $25 for student artists), artist’s vitae, list of proposed sculptures, dimensions, weight, materials, date of completion, and photographs or digital images that represent your sculptures. Proposals must be received or postmarked by December 16, 2022.
