Hampton named Top 10 Digital City for 20th time
Hampton was once again named a Top 10 Digital City. This is the 20th time the city has been recognized for its innovative use of technology and citizen engagement.
The rankings are done by the Center for Digital Government, a national research institute focused on technology policy and the best practices in state and local government.
This year, Hampton was eighth on the list for cities between 125,000 and 249,000 population. Hampton has earned the national honor more than any city in Virginia with more than 125,000 residents.
This year’s entry highlighted several city initiatives:
- Increase in cybersecurity efforts
- Increasing the number of screens in city buildings to 69 to inform citizens and staff of city events and policies
- Continuity of operations and disaster recovery preparations
- Network upgrades
- Increased citizen communication and interaction, including a 20% increase in enews subscribers, 96% increase in video views, and 219% increase in social media engagement.
