Campbell Pozin, Dylan Rice, Will Stockhausen, and Max Wayne all secured Scholar All-American honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, while the entire Christopher Newport men's lacrosse squad earned the National Academic Team Award for its continued success both in and out of the classroom.

With their awards, Rice, Stockhausen, and Wayne became the program's first-ever two-time Scholar All-Americans. Meanwhile, Pozin became just the ninth Captain to receive the prestigious honor, which is chosen by the USILA Scholar All-American committee. Nominees must be either a senior or graduate student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA while also boasting a decorated athletic résumé.

Along with the individual honorees, Christopher Newport also received the National Academic Team Award for the second straight year. That honor is bestowed upon all programs that have attained a 3.0 team GPA.

In his fourth season with the Captains, Pozin was a dominant force as a short-stick specialist. Honored as a first-team All-American, he was also named the USILA National Short-Stick Defensive Midfielder of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to earn that accolade. An All-Conference and All-Region selection as well, he forced 15 turnovers during the season and led all short-sticks in the league with 52 ground balls.

Among his finest efforts, Pozin had five appearances with at least two takeaways, including four caused turnovers against No. 14 Wesleyan in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on May 15. A finance major, he also added a season-high seven ground balls against No. 7 Lynchburg on March 19 after posting a pair of points during a win against No. 10 Gettysburg less than 24 hours earlier.

A record-setting member of the attack, Rice established new single-season program standards with 105 points and 72 goals during his fifth year with the Captains. A first-team USILA and IMLCA All-American, he posted at least one goal in all 20 games. Meanwhile, the South Region Offensive Player of the Year also had 15 hat-tricks, including eight strikes against Roanoke on February 12, which set the single-game school record.

Aided by his work during the year, Rice graduated as the program's all-time leader with 339 points and 244 goals. Both of those totals also placed him in the top-25 on the all-time national charts. Meanwhile, off the field, he is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and a two-time Coast-to-Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year while pursuing a masters of financial analysis.

An imposing presence on the midfield unit, Stockhausen finished his final campaign with 25 points after collecting 14 goals and 11 assists. He registered at least one point in 15 of his appearances, including six battles against nationally-ranked foes. Especially effective in the postseason, he tallied a goal and an assist in each of the squad's first three playoff games, including three points in the NCAA opener against Sewanee on May 14.

Buoyed by his performance in 2022, Stockhausen finished his tenure ranked fifth on the program's all-time scoring charts with 148 points. That slots him second among midfielders as well. Meanwhile, his 89 goals and 59 assists also rank in the top-10 on the career charts, while his 82 appearances are the third-most in school history. Equally successful in the classroom, he graduated as a double-major in accounting and finance.

A defensive juggernaut, Wayne concluded his career as the USILA National Player and Defenseman of the Year, becoming the first standout in the country to earn both honors since 2004. A unanimous first-team All-American, he had at least one takeaway in all 20 games while ranking 10th in the NCAA with 55 total caused turnovers. He also scooped up 51 ground balls, which led all defensemen in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference.

Hauling in seven total All-American awards during his spectacular career, Wayne also became the first Division III standout in history to be selected in the Premier Lacrosse League Draft after Atlas picked him 21st overall last month. Graduating as the program's all-time leader with 84 career starts, he finished second with 179 caused turnovers while also securing CoSIDA Academic All-American nods as a computer science major.

Overall, Christopher Newport wrapped up the 2022 campaign with an 18-2 record while advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight year. Along the way, the Captains won the program's first Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship while knocking off seven nationally-ranked opponents and spending three weeks as the unanimous No. 1 team in the USILA National Coaches Poll.
