Riverside Cardiology Specialists Williamsburg welcomes Dr. James O’Brien, a board-certified cardiologist with more than three decades of experience in outpatient and hospital settings as well as noninvasive techniques.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, he completed an internal medicine residency and a cardiology fellowship at Albany Medical Center in New York. Before joining Riverside, Dr. O'Brien was the director of cardiovascular services at UHS Cardiology-Norwich at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, New York.
For Dr. O'Brien, caring runs in the family. His father, an internal medicine physician who operated a private practice for 50 years, initially inspired him to pursue cardiology. Shortly after completing his fellowship, Dr. O'Brien also practiced at the O'Brien Health Center in his hometown of Winooski, Vermont. He believes in keeping patients fully informed about their diagnoses, condition, prognosis, treatment options and recommendations, and being ready to support their individual choices.
Married with five adult children, Dr. O'Brien enjoys golf, pickleball, boating, skiing, photography and playing Bridge in his leisure time.
