Hampton residents are invited to participate in the city's budget planning through the annual I Value program, which starts on March 18. This initiative allows citizens to voice their opinions on budget priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
The City Council recently reviewed a presentation about this year's program, highlighting opportunities for resident engagement through online and in-person events. Feedback from these sessions will inform the city manager's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026, beginning July 1.
In-person meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex and Saturday, March 22, at 9 a.m. at The American Theatre. Additionally, City Manager Mary Bunting will lead a discussion on Facebook Live on Thursday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. An online survey will also be available from March 18-25 for residents to submit their input.
Results from the I Value program will be compiled by March 26. Subsequently, the city manager will present the recommended budget on April 15. Public hearings regarding this proposal are set for April 23 and May 7, with final approval of the budget expected on May 14.
The finalized budget aims to align with strategic priorities such as economic growth and education. Last year's I Value sessions saw residents prioritize issues like school safety and technology for students, influencing decisions on programs like recycling and improvements at local facilities.
