Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is implementing increased security and awareness measures across all its transit modes, including The Tide light rail and its 11 stations in Norfolk. This initiative aligns with efforts by transit agencies nationwide to enhance safety and efficiency for customers.
The new security measures will complement existing patrols and closed-circuit video monitoring systems already in place. These enhancements are set to coincide with the return of commuters after the holiday season, with HRT planning to maintain this heightened level of security indefinitely.
Customers who observe any suspicious behavior while using transit services are urged to contact emergency services by dialing 911 immediately.
