The City Council is set to address the growing issue of illegal ATV and dirt bike usage on city streets during its upcoming sessions. Scheduled for Wednesday, the council will hold both a work session at 1 p.m. and a legislative session at 6:30 p.m., located in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. These meetings will be accessible via television on Cox 47 and Verizon 22, as well as through live streaming at hampton.gov/livetv.

During the afternoon work session, there will be a briefing on a proposed ordinance aimed at regulating all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road motorcycles. This comes after Hampton reported a significant rise in incidents involving reckless ATV and dirt bike use on public roads. In response to these concerns, Hampton engaged with the General Assembly in Richmond earlier this year. The state legislature subsequently passed a bill empowering municipalities to enact ordinances that could result in the seizure of such vehicles if used illegally or recklessly.

In addition to discussing ATVs, the evening legislative session will feature a public hearing concerning a rezoning application by Cornerstone Custom Homes LLC for land situated at 67 W. Little Back River Road. The council will also deliberate on appointments to several committees including the Hampton VA 250 Committee, Citizens Police Advisory Group, and Hampton Animal Response Team Advisory Committee.

Further details about agendas and meeting attendance can be found online.
