Monday, Sept. 9, 2024 — The City Council will hear a briefing on Wednesday afternoon regarding plans to replace the old playground at Buckroe Beach with new equipment.

The briefing is scheduled for the council’s 1 p.m. work session. Additionally, the council will meet at 6:30 p.m. for its legislative session. September marks a return to the council’s regular schedule of meeting twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays.

All meetings are held on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St., unless otherwise noted. Details on how to attend can be found online.

The current playground equipment at Buckroe is approximately 20 years old and will be taken down after the summer season ends. Hampton residents, particularly those in the Buckroe neighborhood, have been given opportunities to take surveys and provide input on the new equipment. Plans are also being developed for residents to pick up personalized sections of the current playground fence; further information will be made public once finalized.

Both sessions will include briefings on the Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Act (VESMA) and its impact on Hampton.

During the legislative session, there will be a rezoning application to convert four parcels of land on Semple Farm Road into townhouses. Several applications from residents seeking to operate short-term rentals will also be considered, along with appointments to city boards and agencies.

Both meetings will be broadcast on Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22, as well as streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.
