The City Council will convene on Wednesday afternoon to discuss amendments to new regulations on short-term rentals, which are set to take effect next month.
The council's work session is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by a legislative session at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, located at 22 Lincoln St.
During the legislative session, the City Council will consider an amendment to reduce the required buffer zone between rental units from 500 feet to 300 feet. Additionally, the council will deliberate on adding a "homestay rental" category, which pertains to homeowners who rent out individual rooms while residing in their homes.
Other agenda items include formalizing Sister City status with Malanje, Angola, and recognizing the city and the Hampton Police Division for recertification as a Crime Prevention Community. The council will also accept several grants and other funding to be incorporated into the budget for Fiscal Year 2025.
In the work session, updates will be provided by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities and Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services.
Details on how to attend the meetings can be found online. Both sessions will be broadcast on Cox channel 47 and Verizon channel 22, as well as streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv.
