Hampton has established cooling sites for residents needing relief from today's extreme heat. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with temperatures forecasted in the mid-90s and heat indexes reaching 110 degrees.

The city's libraries, community centers, and neighborhood centers will be available for residents seeking refuge from the heat. Public library branches will remain open until 7 p.m., community centers until 8 p.m., and neighborhood centers until 6 p.m.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Those who must be outside should drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors who may be at risk. It is crucial not to leave small children or animals unattended in vehicles, as internal car temperatures can quickly become lethal.

The Office of Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions throughout the week and provide updates if there are any significant changes in the forecast or conditions.
