Interim City Attorney Steven Bond, who has worked for the City of Hampton for nearly 17 years, will leave his position to become a general district court judge.
At the City Council's legislative session on Wednesday evening, Mayor Donnie Tuck read a proclamation honoring Bond and recognizing his "commitment to the Hampton City Council, the City of Hampton, and its citizens."
Bond, who received his bachelor's and law degrees from the College of William & Mary, served as Hampton's deputy city attorney from 2007-14, then as assistant city manager from 2014-23. In December 2023 he took on the responsibilities of interim city attorney. He departs to take a seat on Virginia's 8th Judicial General District Court in Hampton.
At the meeting on Wednesday, the City Council approved Cynthia E. Hudson to become interim city attorney starting on June 17. Hudson had previously served Hampton as city attorney from 2006-13 and before that as deputy city attorney from 1996-2006. She served as Virginia's deputy attorney general from 2014-20.
