On New Year's Eve, Sunday, December 31, 2023, Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) has announced that bus, light rail, Naval Station Norfolk Base Express, and paratransit services will operate on a Sunday schedule. The ferry will also be in operation until 2:00 AM. However, administrative facilities, transit center information booths, and the Customer Service Call Center will be closed on this day.

Similarly, on New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, 2024, HRT will continue to operate bus, light rail, Naval Station Norfolk Base Express, and paratransit services on a Sunday schedule. The ferry, however, will operate on its regular schedule. As with New Year's Eve, administrative facilities, transit center information booths, and the Customer Service Call Center will remain closed.

In addition to the changes in service schedule, HRT has also provided information regarding the closure of the Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipyard during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Routes 403, 405, 415, 430, 966, 967, and 972 will not be operating from Thursday, December 21, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024. These affected routes will resume their regular operation starting Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Spanish-speaking individuals can call 757-222-6100 for assistance in Spanish. TTY service for individuals with hearing impairments is also available by dialing 711 provided by Virginia Relay.
