68 percent of applicants to Christopher Newport University were admitted for fall 2018

At Christopher Newport University, 99 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 56 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Newport News enrolled 4,957 students in fall 2018, including 4,857 in undergraduate and 100 in graduate programs, data shows. 2.9 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

90 percent of undergraduates are residents of Virginia, and 8 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (75 percent) and Black or African American (7 percent).

The school admitted 68 percent of the 7,430 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 24 percent enrolled.
