Isle of Wight County's districts student body comprised mostly of white students in 2023-24 school year

White students comprised the largest ethnic group in Isle of Wight County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 5,594 students attending Isle of Wight County district schools, 59% were white. Black made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 24.4% of the student population.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Isle of Wight County districts, representing 59.5% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county dropped 0.6% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Isle of Wight County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
