The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the commencement of a significant project aimed at enhancing traffic flow on Wythe Creek Road. The $78.6 million initiative, scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2027, will bring about various improvements to the area.
"Improvements will include widening Wythe Creek Road between Langley Boulevard and Carys Chapel Road from two lanes to three, with the inclusion of a new reversible travel lane," stated VDOT officials.
Additionally, the project will involve the construction of a new 1,545-foot bridge over the Northwest Branch Back River, installation of new signals at key intersections, repurposing of existing roadways into pedestrian-friendly paths, and the enhancement of street lighting and roadway drainage.
"During construction, motorists may encounter traffic shifts and lane closures on Wythe Creek Road and Carys Chapel Road. Access to all businesses and residential properties will be maintained at all times," assured VDOT.
It was also emphasized that marine access on the Northwest Branch Back River will be preserved throughout the duration of the project.
