Jahn Hines Named Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week

After continuing his hot start to the 2022-23 season, Christopher Newport junior guard Jahn Hines has been named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Hines scored 24 points in a win at Averett this week as he helped lead the Captains to their eighth straight victory to open the season.

Hines collects his first player of the week distinction this season and the fourth certificate of his career. He fell just one rebound shy of a double-double and finished the game at Averett with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting with nine rebounds and a blocked shot.

In just 38 games, Hines surged over the 600-point milestone in the game, averaging 15.9 points per game over the course of his career. This season, he has already contributed four 20+ point performances including back-to-back 24-point showings in his last two games. Not just an accumulating scorer, Hines has been firing at a high clip all season and is among the league leaders in field-goal percentage knocking down 54.6 percent of his shots.

On the road at Averett, Hines opened the game with 10 points and four rebounds in the first half and then helped CNU pull away with 14 and 5 in the second half. Early in the second half, Hines had a tremendous chase-down block to stymie a Cougars fast-break opportunity, picking up his third block of the season.

The individual awards continue to mount for Hines, who was named the MVP of both the Susquehanna Tip-Off Tournament and the CNU/Holiday Inn Invitational earlier this year. The preseason All-American has helped guide Christopher Newport to the team's finest season-opening win streak since the 2015-16 year when CNU opened 9-0. Behind that run, the Captains have hauled in the program's first-ever number one national ranking according to the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
