Fall Leaf Program Reminder

25

City of Poquoson issued the following announcement on Dec. 16

It is the policy of Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority (VPPSA) that fallen leaves are to be in clear plastic bags, 0.50 to 0.90 mils, and without drawstrings. The reasons for these restrictions are – we need to be able to verify that the bag contents are leaves, if the bags are too thick the blades in the debagging machine will not be able to cut through the plastic, and finally the drawstrings wrap around the gears in the debagging machine causing damage to the machine. (Note: If you have strings on your bags you can cut the strings off.)

City Code (Chapter 66 – Solid Waste) states “Any solid waste container, bags, bundles, or other solid waste required or permitted to be placed at the curb or street edge for collection, shall not be so placed prior to 12 hours before the regularly scheduled collection time.”.   The Fall Leaf collection dates can be found on your Solid Waste Calendar, they are the green Monday’s. Also, items must be placed away from trees, power lines and other obstructions. NO items should be placed in the street or blocking street drainage.
