Hampton University Department of Athletics Announces Updated Safety Protocols for Football Season

14

Hampton University issued the following announcement on Sept. 17

Hampton University is excited to host the remainder of its 2021 Football season. One of the chief responsibilities of Hampton University is to ensure the health and safety of our students and other members of the Hampton Family. Out of an abundance of caution and in an effort to keep the campus community safe, informed, and healthy, we have updated information concerning all home football games due to the recent rise in Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases nationwide.

The Hampton University Department of Athletics will require all fans, including all Hampton University employees and students, to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to enter the Football Game as well as the Game Day Tailgate Zone. All guests must show their COVID – 19 vaccination card, government-issued ID, and a game ticket to enter the game/tailgate zone. Hampton University students, faculty, and staff may show their valid University identification as verification of their vaccination status.  The only exception for unvaccinated fans will be for children under 12 years of age. Children under 12 years of age will be required to take a COVID-19 diagnostic test within 72-hours prior to the game/tailgate and provide proof of a negative result before entering the game zone.

Hampton University is also requiring all fans attending a home football game to wear a mask at all times, both indoors and outdoors, while on campus. In an effort to keep everyone healthy and safe, as well as promote as much physical distancing as possible the number of tailgate spots have been reduced, social distancing seating markers have been installed and the attendance for the football game will be capped at 50% of the stadium capacity.

Hampton University will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential impact on our 2021 Football season. In the event that any revisions to the planned activities become necessary, information will be shared in a timely manner.
