Scheduled tunnel and lane closures announced for Elizabeth River Crossings

The Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) facilities have announced a schedule of significant tunnel and lane closures from Friday, November 29 to Friday, December 6. These closures are contingent on weather conditions and may be subject to change. Updates will be available via the Twitter handle @DriveERT.

In the Midtown Tunnel, there will be alternating lane closures eastbound on Wednesday, December 4, and Thursday, December 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

For the Downtown Tunnel, I-264 East will experience alternating lane closures eastbound on Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, during the same hours. Additionally, there will be a right lane closure in the Downtown Tunnel eastbound on Wednesday and Thursday nights. On I-464 North between Poindexter St. and the Berkley Bridge westbound, alternating lane closures are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Interstate 264 East will see alternating lane closures from Frederick Blvd. to Effingham St. from Tuesday through Friday nights starting at 7 p.m., while I-264 West will have similar closures from Effingham St.

On the MLK Expressway, US 58 East will have a right lane closure from London Blvd. to half a mile before the Midtown Tunnel eastbound on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises motorists to “Know Before You Go” by using available tools such as downloading the 511 smartphone app or visiting the 511 Virginia website for traffic information.
