Tidewater Community College is proud to announce the opening of a new Child Development Center on the Portsmouth Campus. The center aims to provide quality care and developmental learning for children of TCC students, as well as for the local community.

According to TCC, "Our centers provide quality care and developmental learning for children of TCC students, helping them thrive while their parents pursue higher education." The center offers childcare scholarships for full-time students with a FAFSA on file, as well as reduced or no-cost childcare for students with children and financial needs.

Experienced Lead Teachers at the center will focus on teaching children school readiness, math, and literacy skills through play. Flexible enrollment options are available, and the center is a VA Childcare Subsidy approved Vendor. The center will operate five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children aged 2 ½ to 5 years.

In addition, thanks to a U.S. Department of Education grant, TCC can offer the Child Care Access Means Parents (CCAMPIS) School scholarships. This initiative aims to help students with children and financial needs receive reduced or no-cost childcare.

"Parents can attend in-person classes, complete internships or program requirements, and feel relief from financial barriers, all while their children receive high-quality care," TCC stated.

For more information about childcare at TCC and to register a child, interested parties are advised to visit the TCC website or contact Ciera Streeter at [email protected] or by calling 757-822-1099.
