Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is set to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the arrival of the Elizabeth River Ferries VI and VII. These two new ferries, which arrived late last year, will soon be operational and will play a crucial role in bolstering HRT's fleet ahead of the upcoming busy summer season.

The ferries, built by St. John's Ship Building Inc. in Palatka, FL, at a cost of $6.4 million, come with several upgrades that both passengers and crew members will appreciate for years to come. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will provide an opportunity for the public to be among the first to step aboard the Elizabeth River Ferry VI.

The guest speakers at the event will include Benjamin Simms, Chief Operating Officer of Hampton Roads Transit, Mayor Kenny Alexander of Norfolk, Mayor Shannon Glover of Portsmouth, and David Jordan, Owner/Operator of Norfolk by Boat.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The Waterside Ferry Dock, located at 333 Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510, will serve as the venue for this momentous occasion.

With the arrival of these two new ferries, HRT is demonstrating its commitment to providing efficient and reliable transportation options for the residents and visitors of Hampton Roads. The addition of the Elizabeth River Ferries VI and VII to the fleet will not only enhance the capacity of HRT but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the region's transportation infrastructure.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony represents an important milestone for HRT and signifies the beginning of a new era in the transportation sector of Hampton Roads.
