Christmas, New Year's holidays affect city services, facilities

City offices will be closed on Friday, December 22, for an administrative day, as well as on Monday, December 25, for Christmas, and on Monday, January 1, for New Year's Day.

Trash and recycling collections will not take place on Friday, December 22, or on Monday, December 25. Instead, Friday's collections will be made on Wednesday, December 20, and Monday's collections will be made on Wednesday, December 27. There will be no collections made on Monday, January 1, with that day's collections being made on Wednesday, January 3.

Street sweeping will not occur on Monday, December 25. Instead, that day's sweeping will be done on Wednesday, December 27. Street sweeping scheduled for December 27 will be done on Friday, December 29. Similarly, there will be no street sweeping done on Monday, January 1. Sweeping scheduled for January 1 will be done on Wednesday, January 3, and sweeping scheduled for January 3 will be done on Friday, January 5.

The yard waste site will be closed from December 22 to December 23, December 25, and January 1. Furthermore, the landfill will be closed on December 25 and January 1.

City schools will be closed from December 18 to January 2, while libraries will be closed from December 22 to 25, and on January 1. Community and neighborhood centers, as well as the Treasurer and Revenue offices, will also be closed on December 22, December 25, and January 1. DMV Select and the courts will follow the same closure schedule, with closures on December 22, December 25, and January 1.

The Peninsula Health District will close at noon on December 22 and will remain closed on December 25 and January 1. The Hampton History Museum will be closed on December 24-25 and January 1, with its administrative office closed from December 22-25 and January 1.

Public golf courses, such as The Hamptons and The Woodlands, will close at 1 p.m. on December 24 and will be closed all day on December 25. The Air Power Park's museum building will also be closed on December 24-25 and January 1.

City parks, including access to the Water Walk Trail, will be closed on December 24-25 and January 1. Similarly, the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center will be closed from December 22-25, December 31, and January 1.

Lastly, the James T. Wilson Fishing Pier will close at 6 p.m. on December 24 and will reopen at 7 a.m. on December 26. The pier will then close again at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, and will remain closed until spring.

As the holiday season approaches, it is important for residents to be aware of the various closures and adjustments to city services and facilities. Planning ahead and taking note of the schedule changes will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday season for all.
