City Council will be convening for its upcoming work session on December 13, 2023, where they will be hearing reports on the city's recent developments and this year's financial audit report. The session will commence with several public hearings, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Among the projects proposed for consideration is the construction of a large apartment complex at Commerce and Hartford drives. This development would consist of approximately 380 units and a six-story parking garage. An illustration of the proposed complex can be viewed for further reference.

Another project up for discussion is the construction of an extended stay hotel at 2122 Hartford Road, situated at the southeast corner of the intersection of Hartford Road and Marcella Road.

Additionally, there will be a rezoning and use permit under review, which aims to finalize the approvals for the Riverside Behavioral Health & Recovery Center.

In addition to these project discussions, the council will also address several budget amendments. These amendments exceed 1 percent of the total budget, and therefore, a public hearing will be held. Notably, one of the largest budget amendments pertains to additional state funding for Hampton City Schools, amounting to nearly $14.4 million.

Both the afternoon work session, beginning at 1 p.m., and the evening business session are open to the public. The meetings will take place in the City Council Chambers located on the 8th floor of City Hall, situated at 22 Lincoln Street. For those who cannot attend in person, the meetings will be broadcasted on Cox 47 and Verizon 22 channels, as well as streamed online at hampton.gov/livetv.

As the council prepares to hear these reports and engage in important discussions, it is an opportunity for the public to be informed and participate in the decision-making process that shapes the future of the city.
