Dear Citizens,

In an update regarding waste management in the city, we would like to inform you that there will be a temporary limitation in manpower for trash pickup until the end of December 2023. This is due to the use or lose of annual leave time by the staff involved in waste management. As a result, there may be delays in trash pickup.

If your trash is not picked up by 5 p.m. on your scheduled day, please note that it will be picked up the following day. However, it is important to mention that this schedule may not apply during the holiday season. The holiday schedules will be an exception to the regular pickup routine.

To address any concerns or inquiries, the new contact number for Waste Management is 757-393-8629. Alternatively, you can also visit the website www.portsmouthva.gov/waste for additional information.

In light of these temporary changes, we kindly request your understanding and patience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we are working diligently to ensure that normal waste management services are restored as soon as possible.

Mimi Terry, the Interim City Manager, emphasized the importance of cooperation during this period, stating, "We understand that timely trash pickup is crucial for our residents. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this temporary manpower limitation."

We urge all residents to follow the revised waste management schedule and contact the provided number or visit the website for any further updates or concerns. Together, we can ensure that waste management operations continue to run smoothly during this period.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

The Waste Management Team
