WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 2670, theNational Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024:
“This legislation, as originally passed by the House Armed Services Committee, made important investments in shipbuilding and national security, and it would have given a well-deserved pay raise to our servicemembers. It is extremely disappointing that the historically bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act has been hijacked by extreme MAGA Republicans. The original bipartisan bill was undermined with amendments to attack reproductive freedom for women in uniform, bully and belittle our LGBTQ servicemembers, and make our military ground zero for their endless culture wars. Nobody should be playing politics with the military. As we move forward with negotiating a final NDAA with the Senate, I am hopeful that we can ultimately enact a bipartisan FY24 NDAA that invests in our servicemembers, their families and our national security.”
