City of Portsmouth to Observe Juneteenth Holiday on Monday, June 19th

The City of Portsmouth’s municipal offices, libraries, and museums will be closed on Monday, June 19th, in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday.  Please scroll to the public notice-- Registrar's Office Open on Juneteenth Holiday for Emergency Absentee Voting. 

Trash Collection – There will be no trash, recycling, or bulk collections on Juneteenth Day, Monday, June 19th.  All Monday routes will be collected on Wednesday, June 21st.  For more information, call the Waste Management Division at (757) 393-8663.

Portsmouth Public Library – Libraries will close on Monday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth.  Discover books and resources about this holiday commemorating the arrival of federal troops ordered to proclaim emancipation to enslaved blacks in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865.  Your PPL card is also a passport for e-books, downloading music, movies, and more at portsmouthpubliclibrary.org.  Please call (757) 393-8501 for more information. 

Portsmouth Museums and Tourism – All Portsmouth Museums will be closed on Monday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth Day.  

The Portsmouth Welcome Center, located at 206 High Street, will be open from        9 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

Parks & Recreation

Recreation Centers, the Splash Park, and Cavalier Manor Pool will be closed Monday, June 19th, in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday. 

Parks will be operating with normal hours, from dawn to dusk.  Picnic shelter rentals are available online at portsmouthparks.com.

Golf Courses will be open; tee times and golf carts are limited.  Please call ahead to ensure availability.  

-The Links Golf Course, located at 140 City Park Avenue, will be open from      7 a.m. – 7 p.m.  For more information, call (757) 465-1500. 

-The City of Portsmouth’s municipal offices, libraries, and museums will be closed on Monday, June 19th, in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday. , located at 1 Bide-A-Wee Lane, will be open from      7 a.m. – 7 p.m.  For more information, call (757) 393-8600 or visit: Bide-A-Wee-Golf-Course. 

Registrar's Office Open on Juneteenth Holiday

The Office of the General Registrar will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023, for Emergency Absentee Voting ONLY.  Emergency Absentee Voting applies only if the voter was unable to apply for an absentee ballot by Friday, June 9, 2023, due to hospitalization or illness, or the hospitalization, illness, or death of an immediate family member, or if the voter had an obligation arise after 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, due either to; 1) his/her business, profession, or occupation; or 2) hospitalization or the hospitalization or death an immediate family member. The Emergency Absentee Voting application must be completed and received by 2 p.m.
