Bluebird Gap Farm, Hampton’s unique petting zoo, has resumed its popular animal feeding experience, which allows guests to purchase bags of feed and interact with some of the park’s animals.

The program was suspended in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, but is now back using a new vending machine and a better system. The park staff has been adjusting the animals’ regular feeding schedule to accommodate the additional food they will be receiving.

Guests are not allowed to feed the horses or donkeys at Bluebird Gap Farm, but are encouraged to feed the sheep, goats, alpaca and cows. Bags of feed cost $1.50 and can only be purchased with a credit card through the vending machine at the park.

Bluebird Gap Farm was recently named one of the top 10 petting zoos in the U.S. by American Towns Media, a digital company that aggregates community activities. Bluebird Gap Farm was the only Virginia petting zoo on the list and even beat out the Smithsonian National Zoo's kids area, which ranked 11th. To see the full list, go online to bestpettingzoos.com.

Bluebird Gap Farm is located at 60 Pine Chapel Road. For more information, call 757-825-4750. It is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. There is no admission charge.
