Museum at Air Power Park will be closed for 5 days
The museum building at Air Power Park will be closed to the public for five days, expected to be Monday through Friday, March 6-10, to accommodate the installation of a bulkhead along Newmarket Creek. The work will require the electricity to be shut off.
The outage will affect only the museum, parking lot street lights, and Mercury Boulevard island street lamps immediately in front of the museum. There will be no interruption of service to surrounding communities. The current closure is subject to change by Dominion Power.
The project includes a thorough upgrade of the grounds and outdoor exhibits and will resolve long-standing challenges with flooding and wetness of the grounds. Once complete, estimated to be in early summer, the outdoor park will be much more user friendly and available to the public. During the construction, the outdoor grounds, exhibits, and waterfront are closed to the public. The museum is normally open and will re-open after power is restored.
