Distance Runners Lead the Way as Christopher Newport Track & Field Punctuates Final Day of Camel City Invitational

The Christopher Newport track & field teams wrapped up the final day of the Camel City Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

During Saturday's action, the distance runners paced the squad with a handful of top-flight efforts. In the women's 3000, Mae Savoie clocked in at 10:42.39, which marked the fastest time in the league this year. Meanwhile, Luke Tompkins led all Division III competitors in the men's 800 with a 2:02.11 mark, while Eliza Dana completed the women's mile in 5:28.24. That also stands as the top clocking in the conference in 2023.

Among other track standouts, Luke Hawkins finished the men's 3000 in 9:12.69, while Nick Tolarchyk wrapped up the race in 9:27.22.

In field events, CJ Reeders finished fifth overall in the men's triple jump with a 13.58-meter showing. Later, Tyler Palmer added a 13.03-meter toss in the shot put, which placed him 18th in the field on Saturday.

Christopher Newport faces a quick turnaround as the Captains will return to action on Sunday at the Richard Drake Invitational in Virginia Beach.
