Monday Matinee vs. Brandeis at Freeman Center Opens 2023 for Seventh-Ranked Captains

Christopher Newport University opens 2023 on Monday afternoon, as the Captains host the Judges of Brandeis University. Tip-off time is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center. John Krikorian's squad ended 2022 with four straight victories, most recently a 98-48 win over Wilmington (OH) College on Friday in the Captains Shootout. CNU is now 13-2 and ranked seventh in the country in the most-recent D3hoops.com poll.

The game will be the first-ever of the programs. Brandeis, located in Waltham, Massachusetts, is 8-2 heading into play on Monday, and defeated Westfield State at home on Friday, 60-47.

"This will be another tough challenge for us," Krikorian said. "Brandeis is a solid program from a very good conference (University Athletic Association) and they're having a very successful year. We're going to have to play well and keep building the momentum we've been able to establish. I hope our fans come out in big numbers to start the new year."

All Captains games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM). The pre-game show will begin at approximately 4:40 p.m. Monday afternoon.. Tickets for the game will be available prior to tip-off at the Freeman Center Ticket Office Monday.
