FOOD LION MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#22 Terrence Hunter-Whitfield, Virginia State(Sr., 6-5 Forward - Chesterfield, VA)
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and 2.3 assists on 50 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three in three games last week for the Trojans. In a 90-84 win over Bluefield State, the senior registered new season-highs of 23 points (8-of-16 shooting), 13 rebounds, and five assists. The Chesterfield, VA native scored 21 points (8-of-11) and logged eight rebounds and four steals in a 105-65 victory over Carolina University. In a close 61-58 loss to UNC Pembroke, the forward recorded a game-high 17 points and six steals, plus five rebounds.
FOOD LION MEN'S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

In three games last week, Terrence Hunter-Whitfield tallied 26 rebounds (18 defensive), 13 steals, and a block. The senior had a game-high and season-high six steals in a loss to UNC Pembroke, four steals in the win over Carolina University, and three steals in a win against Bluefield State. His 13 rebounds against Big Blue and eight versus the Bruins were both game-highs. In total, Hunter-Whitfield averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and 2.3 assists on 50 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three in three games last week for the Trojans.
FOOD LION MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#5 Ezekiel Cannedy, Johnson C. Smith(Fr, 6-2 Guard - Kings Mountain, NC)
In three games last week, Ezekiel Cannedy averaged 14.3 points per game on 48 percent shooting from the field and 45 percent shooting from behind the arc. In a 84-78 win over Johnson & Wales, the freshman scored 18 points (six-of-eight from the field; three-of-five from three) with four steals, four rebounds, and two steals. In the 103-56 win over Morris, the Kings Mountain, NC native scored 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field in 18 minutes of gametime. Against Anderson (SC), Cannedy scored 10 points with a game-high four steals in the loss. This is the guard's third consecutive rookie of the week honor to start the season.
FOOD LION WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#3 Anii Harris, Bowie State(So., 5-7 Guard - Ellicott City, MD) Anii Harris averaged 17 points over two games last week for the Bulldogs. In the 70-63 victory over the University of the District of Columbia, the sophomore scored a career-high 25 points. Leading 65-63 with under a minute to play, the Ellicott City, MD native made both her free throws to make it a two-possession game. The guard finished 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. FOOD LION WOMEN'S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK #1 Jainaya Jones, Winston-Salem State(r-Jr., 5-4 Forward - Bayboro, NC) Jainaya Jones recorded 10 points, nine steals, five assists, and two blocks in the Rams' lone game last week-- a 79-46 win over Carolina University. The redshirt junior logged nine of the team's 19 steals, which finished with 33 points off turnovers. The Bayboro, NC native also logged the only two blocks of the game for Winston-Salem State. FOOD LION WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK #22 India Howard, Johnson C. Smith(Fr., 6-1 Forward - Coppell, TX) India Howard dropped 20 points and 12 rebounds in the 86-64 win over Bluefield State, which was the Golden Bulls' only game last week. The freshman shot 7-of-12 and was a perfect six-for-six at the free throw line. The Coppell, TX native also had two steals and six offensive boards. Original source can be found here |
