North King Street just south of the Interstate 64 overpass is closed due to emergency road repairs expected to take three to four months. The closure is where the road crosses Bright's Creek, between the Vanguard Brewpub and Spring Street.
The repairs are extensive and could take three to four months to complete.
Detour signs will direct southbound drivers to use Rip Rap Road to Armistead Avenue to Pembroke Avenue. Drivers headed north will use the same streets in reverse order.
North King Street will mostly be is open in front of The Vanguard and overflow parking lot behind the transit station, which are accessible via the Pembroke Avenue part of the detour. However, there may be brief times when access to those places, as well as Elmerton Cemetery, may be blocked.
Crews are assessing the scope of the repair work, but there is no estimate yet on when the road will reopen.
